DC Teen Denied Bond in Murder of Ballou High School Student

A judge denied bond for a 16-year-old murder suspect Thursday, considering him a flight risk.

Daquan Gray was arrested Wednesday and charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the death of 15-year-old Ballou High School student Jaylyn Wheeler. Gray has been charged as an adult.

Wheeler was shot May 16 on the 600 block of Alabama Avenue SE. Prosecutors said the shooting was the result of a fight in the school that a school resource officer broke up. Police said 6-9 shots were fired.

The defense argued there is no probably cause Gray was the shooter. While witnessees who were shown surveillance video said the shooter could be Gray, the defense argued the description of the shooter doesn't match Gray.

Prosecutors argued Gray is a flight risk who hasn't been to school since the shooting. People at Gray's listed address said they didn't know him.
