The District is one of the fastest growing city in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau -- and no, that's not just due to the Occupiers.
The city's population grew by 2.7 percent between April 2010 and July of this year. That's a higher percentage than any state in the nation -- although you could also say it's not quite fair to compare a city to states.
Even so, the percentage comes out to an increase of more than 16,000 residents. The city's population is now 617,996.
Demographers say D.C.'s vibrant jobs market was a major factor in the population boom.
Maryland and Virginia also saw their populations grow during that period. Maryland added more than 54,000 residents; Virginia grew by more than 95,000.
