The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating two fatal shootings in Washington.
Police said the first occurred after 4 p.m. Friday in the 4500 block of Hunt Place, NE. Police say Charles Newell, 24, of Waldorf, Maryland, was fatally shot Friday afternoon in the Deanwood neighborhood of northeast Washington. Police found him after hearing gunshots, and he died at a hospital.
The second fatal shooting occurred early Saturday after 2:20 a.m. in the 1700 block of 8th Street, NW. Police said another man was shot and killed. Police say Reginald Perry, 28, of Washington, was fatally shot.
Investigators have not released any information about the shooters or any possible motive. There have been 138 homicides in the District this year, an increase of more than 50 percent over this time last year.
