Police: Fight Leads to Deadly Stabbing

42-year-old Southeast man killed outside apartment building

D.C. police have identified the man who was stabbed to death Friday night outside an apartment building in Northwest.

Investigators say the stabbing stemmed from a fight between two men outside the Tyler House Apartments at 1200 North Capitol Street in northwest Washington Friday night.

Police say one of the two men eventually stabbed the other several times in his head and chest. The victim has been identified as 42-year-old John Wesley Griffin of Southeast.

Officers shut down North Capitol Street near New York Avenue while investigating the killing. That intersection has since re-opened.

The suspect in the stabbing is described as a man standing five feet, seven inches tall with a medium complexion and a beard. He was last seen running west along N Street, Northwest.
