Starting Monday, April 25, residents will have to pay $45 for a new 32-gallon trash cart or 32-gallon recycling cart.

The new fee is for neighborhoods who have twice-a-week trash collection.

Officials at the Department of Public Works say this move is to help reduce the budget deficit and help replace supplies.

“Demand for the 32-gallon carts outstripped our ability to replenish our inventory and stay within our budget,” said DPW Director William Howland, Jr.

The city provided trash carts, topped with sturdy lids, were introduced in part to reduce pests getting into the garbage.

If you need a new trash can or recycling bin, you can call 311 or place an order through the DPW website.
