Tractor-Trailer Fire Shuts Down Eastbound I-66

Major delays on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County Wednesday morning.

A vehicle fire caused all the east bound lanes and two westbound lanes to be shut down near Route 234 around the Gainesville area.

At about 6:45 a.m., a tractor-trailer drifted to the left, pushing a Cadillac CTS into the far left HOV lane. Those two vehicles then struck a Toyota Prius. The Cadillac spun out, and the tractor-trailer continued about 300 more feet before coming to rest and bursting into flames.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 45-year-old David Simensen, of Woodbridge, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

All lanes were open by 10 a.m.
