D.C. Expands Summer Meal Program for Youth

The District of Columbia is expanding a program that provides free meals for children and teens during the summer.

Mayor Vincent Gray's office says starting Saturday, free meals will be offered on Saturdays at certain libraries, parks and recreation centers.

The mayor's office says last year, the city offered free meals at 12 locations. This year, it will offer meals at 19 locations.

Children can simply show up for the meals, and no registration is required.

The recreation sites will offer meals on Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. Libraries will offer meals Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
