D.C. Named Best Place to Raise a Family

A city government torn by ethic scandals, a Metro transport system plagued by broken-down escalators, and a school system that’s been dogged by cheating on standardized tests: the perfect place to raise a kid?

That's what Parenting Magazine said, when it placed Washington on the top of their list of the best cities for families.

Parenting cites access to museums, child friendly restaurants (specifically calling out Matchbox and Busboys and Poets), and green space among the capital's kid-friendly plusses.

"You want the best for your family," Parenting writes, "and that includes great schools, affordable homes, low crime rates, plenty of jobs, and lots of parkland."

Some residents may disagree with the findings, but the magazine said it reviewed 84 categories when making their list.

Austin, Texas came in second, and Boston was named the third best city to raise a family, according to the magazine.
