A Virginia man spent 22 hours in a roadside ditch after a motorcycle crash before he was finally able to summon help.
Justin Hipple, 29, woke up after a crash on Bristow Road near the 234 bypass in Prince William County with a broken back, nine broken ribs and a punctured lung.
The last thing that he remembered was riding his brother's motorcycle home from work in Frederick on June 30. Along the way, he lost control of the machine and left the roadway, where he was knocked out.
When he came to, Hipple was able to hear the traffic from the nearby road, but was unable to move. Weak from the accident, nobody heard his faint calls for help.
Although his cell phone had been broken into three pieces, he told News4's Darcy Spencer that he spent several hours putting it back together. When it finally powered up, he called his brother, and the first thing he told him was that he had wrecked his bike.
Hipple's next call was to 911, which dispatched a medical crew. He was finally found 50 yards into the woods near Bristow Road and the 234 bypass.
Hipple remains in the hospital recovering.
