D.C. Council Candidate Charged With Soliciting Prostitution

Campaign manager denies Chavous solicited prostitute

A candidate for the Ward 7 D.C. Council seat was arrested for allegedly soliciting a prostitute early Friday.

Kevin B. Chavous, 27, was arrested just after midnight in the unit block of K Street NE.

“Kevin was clearly targeted and was not soliciting in any way,” said Lamont Harrell, Chavous's campaign manager. "Chavous intends to hire an attorney and fight any charges.”

Harrell said the arrest was part of a sting operation. Police have not confirmed there was a sting.

Chavous is the director of DC BAEO, a non-profit advocacy group that's mission is increasing high-quality education options for low-income black families. His father is former Councilman Kevin P. Chavous.
