D.C. Businessman Contribution Turned into Charity Donation

Delaware Gov. Jack Markell will give $28,000 he received from an embattled D.C. businessman to charity,

The News Journal of Delaware reported Markell's office indicated he would give the money he received from Jeffrey Thompson to several charities including the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware.

Thompson has not been charged with anything, but prosecutors are investigating him on suspicion that he funded a shadow campaign for D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray. The Center for Public Integrity broke the news that Markell will return the funds.

Several other politicians including President Barack Obama and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley have also returned or donated campaign contributions tied to Thompson.
