D.C.-Bound Train Kills Person on Tracks, Disrupting Service Near Philly

Rail service has been restored after an Amtrak train struck and killed a person on the tracks outside Philadelphia.

Amtrak says a Washington, D.C.-bound Acela Express train was involved in the incident around 7:30 a.m. Monday in Prospect Park.

Police have not released the victim's name. They did not provide details on why the person was on the tracks.

Service on SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Line, which operates on the same tracks, was halted for about 90 minutes.

Philadelphia-bound service resumed around 9:15 a.m. Delaware-bound trains resumed around 10:30 a.m.

Amtrak trains were also delayed.

The train involved in the incident arrived in Wilmington, Delaware an hour and 43 minutes behind schedule.
