Light Snow Falls Around the D.C. Area

Winter Weather Advisory Begins at 6 a.m. Tuesday

Just call it winter's last stand.

A winter weather advisory was in effect for most of the D.C. area Tuesday through 8 p.m., with an advisory for Anne Arundel and Charles counties and the city of Baltimore lasting through midnight.

Accumulation ranged from 1-2 inches in the D.C. metro area and 2-4 inches west of Interstate 95.

While this was a relatively low-impact event, the start of the snow coincided with the morning rush hour, becoming a nuisance for commuters.

"I live out in Loudoun County, and the commute, what normally would be an hour, sometimes turns into two or three hours," said one commuter. "My kids had 14 days, I think, without school" this winter.

It's likely the last snowfall of the season, Storm Team4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer said.

The snow comes five days after the start of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, but down along the Tidal Basin, flakes collected on tightly-closed buds.

"We're here for spring from Chicago, and we thought we were leaving the snow behind," a visitor told News4's Megan McGrath.

Wednesday will be chilly, with a high near 40, but it should be back to feeling like spring again by the weekend.
