There was a serious fatal accident on the Outer Loop of the Beltway near Alexandria.
At 6 a.m. the main lanes were blocked by police near Exit 174 at the Eisenhower Avenue Connector.
Virginia State police said the accident happened around 2:49 a.m.
Traffic was being diverted early Saturday, but all lanes were open as of 8 a.m.
In Maryland, an accident that was blocking lanes on I-270 near Shady Grove.
A vehicle crashed into the median there, and the local lanes were blocked. The accident was cleared before 8 a.m., but southbound traffic on the roadway was moving slowly.
