A skull but no body was discovered in Calvert County on Friday.
A private citizen walking in the woods found the bony remains, and alerted the Calvert County Sheriff's office.
Police said the find was a "possible" human skull. It was submitted to medical examiners to determine if that was indeed the case, and if so, the identity of the remains.
Police set up a perimeter around the area and conducted a grid search to locate other remains in the area, located off Tate Road in Prince Frederick. They did not immediately discover anything else.
Investigator could not yet say what the cause of death may have been.
