Pr. George's Cuts Back on Good News

Prince George's County to reduce ad spending

A magazine created five years ago to tout the virtues of Prince George’s County could take a significant revenue hit from a major advertiser -- the county.

Budget Director Thomas Himler told the County council at a budget session May 9 that Prince George’s Suite Magazine is not seen by enough people to justify the nearly $500,000 in advertising pledged annually by the county government, according to a report in the Gazette.

Himler told the Council that if the county advertises next year, it will be on a more global scale, the Gazette reported.

County Executive Rushern Baker (D) -- who is featured on the cover of this month's edition -- has proposed reducing the annual advertising allocation to the magazine to $200,000, the Gazette reported, citing budget documents.
