Copies of Vance's Words Hang in DC Firehouses

News4's Jim Vance once shared the moment that changed the way he sees firefighters.

He said he had taken their work for granted, but when a fire broke out in his own neighborhood, he saw the expertise and coordination that firefighting required.

"I have watched perfectly executed plays in football," Vance said. "I have watched a team of physicians bring a man back to life on an operating table. But I have never seen orchestration and synchronization as demonstrated by those firemen."

Rookie firefighters to this day are required to read Vance's words, which hang in D.C. firehouses. News4's Mark Segraves reports.
