Convicted Va. Bigamist Found Dead

Married four women over 11 years

A convicted bigamist was found dead in Virginia Beach three days before he was to be sentenced.

41-year-old Issac Custalow Jr. was found dead of an apparent drug overdose at around midnight early Saturday morning, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. At the time, Custalow was staying with his latest wife, Shannon Denton, whom he married in July.

Denton's mother, Jolynn Nassar, told the paper that detectives told her that Custalow had overdosed on morphine patches, which he was using to treat a bad back and "putting in his mouth to get high," according to Nassar

Custalow pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy in April and was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday. He married his first wife, Wendy, in 2000 and had a son with her before leaving the family in 2006.

Without divorcing Wendy, Custalow went on to marry Kristen Denny in Henrico County in July 2008, Paula Bottoms in Hopewell in July 2009, and Denton in Virginia Beach earlier this year.

Custalow had been granted bail earlier this month on a separate charge of soliciting perjury. He was accused of offering a woman a bribe if she gave false testimony at his trial for allegedly stealing prescription drugs from a former girlfriend.
