Community Honors Father Killed in Northeast DC Shooting

Community members held a vigil Friday night for a father who was killed in Northeast D.C. earlier this week.

Dominic Robinson, 32, was killed after someone shot him several times while he was sitting inside his car on the 900 block of Division Avenue NE near his house in Deenwood Tuesday night, police said.

"I hurt because he was a good child. He never done nothing to nobody," said Jacqueline Wells, Robinson's mother.

He was a family man, taking care of his children and always making sure she was okay, she said.

Robinson was nicknamed the "Mayor of Deenwood" because he was outspoken, said ANC Commissioner Anthony Lorenzo Green, who'd known Robinson for years.

Robinson shared stories about what he described as the relationship between black men and D.C. police at a community meeting at the Deanwood Recreation Center in July 2018.

"You got officers who hop out, telling grown men, 'let me see your waistband, Joe.' How is that to say something to another grown man?" Robinson said in a video from the meeting.

The same community he stood up for stood in solidarity at his candle light vigil.

"Any idea who would kill him and why? No idea. It's driving my brain crazy," Lorenzo Green said.

The shooting left his mother wondering who killed her son and why.

"I just can't get myself together," she said.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case.
