Virginia Crackdown

Normal 0 Virginia State Police were not messing around on their two-day crackdown earlier this week.

Authorities say the crackdown netted 5,814 summonses and arrests along Interstates 95 and 81.

The agency says troopers cited drivers for 3,102 violations along Interstate 81 between the state’s borders with West Virginia and Tennessee on Sunday and Monday. Troopers also arrested 21 people. More than 1,700 speeders were stopped. 

Along Interstate 95, 2,712 citations and 13 arrests were made. Troopers also netted more than 1,100 speeders along the highway between the state’s borders with Maryland and North Carolina.

Over 200 citations were issued for safety belt violations along both interstates.

This is the thirty-fourth operation the agency has conducted in the past 5 years. Since then, there have been over 171,000 arrests and citations.
