Grab your mittens — our friendly neighbors in Canada are going to keep on sending cold air our way before more March-like weather returns this weekend.
Wednesday is looking partly to mostly sunny, breezy and very cold, with highs only around 30. Northwest winds will average 15-25 mph that afternoon, so wind chills will start in single digits, then stay in the teens and 20s.
More cold follows Thursday, when the morning will once again find most areas in the 10s, with downtown and bay-side areas in the low 20s. Clouds will gradually increase Thursday afternoon, with highs in the upper 30s.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser initiated a hypothermia alert for the District on Monday, and officials said Tuesday the alert will remain in effect until further notice. To request shelter transport for homeless D.C. residents, call 311 or the shelter hotline at 202-399-7093.
Milder air and moisture will begin to return on Friday, along with a chance of a rain-snow mix along the I-81 corridor in the Shenandoah Valley. In all likelihood, this will be mostly, if not entirely, rain for the I-95 corridor.
Most areas will be dry early Friday, with the rain and possibly wet snow arriving in the late morning hours. That daytime arrival will help to further limit snow chances, so this event will probably be more conversational than opposed to shovel-able.

Highs will be in the low 40s around D.C. on Friday afternoon, but some colder air could remain trapped in the Shenandoah Valley.
Saturday will be the better half of the weekend. Skies will clear out a bit in the afternoon, with highs around 50. An inch of rain is possible Sunday with highs well into the 50s. Dry air and seasonable temperatures will return early next week.
