A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was run over by her mother's SUV in the driveway of their Montgomery County home Sunday night.
Wenhua Song, 41, went to the grocery store at around 9:15 p.m. Sunday, leaving her 7-year-old and 16-year-old daughters at their home in the 9900 block of Potomac Manors Drive.
About 15 minutes later, Song returned home after realizing she had forgotten something and found her daughter, Xitong Kong, unresponsive in the family's circular driveway.
Around that time, police were called to the neighborhood because an alarm had gone off at the home next door. A neighbor who arrived at that home told officers he saw a person lying in Song's driveway.
Officers went to the family's home, and Kong was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police believe the girl may have decided that she wanted to go with her mother when she was struck by Song's Mercedes SUV.
She remained in critical conditions as of Monday afternoon.
The collision remains under investigation.
