Child Abducted in 2006 Found in Virginia

Mother accused of taking girl from California

A child abducted from California in 2006 was found safe in Sterling, Va., according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Stephanie Cano, now 12, was found Monday with her mother, Maria Cano, in a home in Sterling after Los Angeles police received a tip though the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children website.

When Stephanie was 6, her father reported her missing from their Los Angeles home.

Deputies said 39-year-old Maria Cano is wanted in California for child concealment and multiple counts of grand theft. She is being held without bond and awaiting extradition to California.

Stephanie is being returned to her father.
