Freezing Your Child's Credit Record

As of Tuesday, January 1, Maryland parents and legal guardians can place a security freeze on a minor child’s credit records. The law is the first of its kind across the country and the freeze would prevent identity thieves from opening credit fraudulent accounts in your child’s name.

To freeze your child’s report, submit requests to the three major credit reporting agencies…

Equifax:
Submit a freeze request online on behalf of a minor at www.equifax.com, call 1-800-685-1111, or write to:

Equifax Security Freeze,
P.O. Box 105788,
Atlanta, GA 30348.

You must have the child's complete name, address, copy of a Social Security Card, or an official copy of a birth certificate, or a copy of a driver's license, or any other government-issued identification, or a copy of a utility bill that shows name and home address. The same information is required of the parent who requents this information, and other information may also be required.
