Charles Co. Opens Several Warming Centers

Several warming centers will be open in Charles County, Md., to help residents cope with blustery temperatures.

Temperatures will drop and winds will speed up, making it feel close to 0. Winds will only get stronger during the morning hours, with wind gust of up to 50 mph between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday.

The freezing temperatures could cause slick roads, power outages and even hypothermia.

The following buildings will also operate as warming centers on Friday and Saturday:

  • Capital Clubhouse
    3033 Waldorf Market Place, Waldorf
    Open Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Department of Community Services
    8190 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco
    Open Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Saturday
  • Port Tobacco Community Center
    8190 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco
    Open Friday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., closed Saturday
  • Nanjemoy Community Center
    4375 Port Tobacco Road, Nanjemoy
    Open Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Saturday
  • Charles County Public Library
    All branches open Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    All branches open Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Richard R. Clark Senior Center
    1210 Charles St., La Plata
    Open Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Saturday
