Charges Dropped in 9 Drug Cases Amid Officer Perjury Probe

A Maryland newspaper reported that prosecutors have dropped charges against at least nine drug defendants in cases investigated by a Frederick City Police officer who is the target of a perjury probe.

The Frederick News-Post reported Tuesday that a 10th case investigated by Officer First Class Megan Mattingly has been reopened so the convicted defendant can try to void her plea deal.

Mattingly is on administrative duty while Montgomery County police investigate the matter.

Mattingly testified during a hearing last month that she did not witness part of an alleged drug deal, contrary to what she wrote in charging documents and testified to earlier.

She said another officer witnessed the act, but that she wrote about it in the first person because she was the charging officer.
