Good news for people who use the Chain Bridge.
Construction that has taken away lanes for the last year is almost done. But before all three lanes can reopen, the bridge must be shut down one last time this weekend.
The final closure will happen at 9 p.m. Friday and will last no later than 6:30 a.m. Monday. Work crews will remove the concrete barriers, repave the bridge deck and paint stripes on the road. Work on the sidewalks means the bridge will also be off limits to pedestrians and bicyclists.
When the bridge reopens on Monday, all three lanes will be back in service. Work will continue underneath the bridge until August, but any lane closures associated with that part of the project will happen during off-peak hours.
