Once again, the Chain Bridge will be closed for weekend work. No pedestrians, bicyclists or drivers allowed.
The District Department of Transportation's on-going bridge reconstruction project puts the bridge out of commission from Friday at 8 p.m until Monday at 5 a.m. Canal Road will stay open, but people won't be able to turn onto the bridge.
The project started last June but was delayed by the twin blizzards. Construction crews have been pouring new concrete, replacing the expansion joints and fixing streetlights on the bridge.
The end to the weekend closures is in sight. DDOT anticipates having all lanes back open by May 31, but additional work underneath the bridge will continue through August.
