Caught on Tape: Giant Anteater Still Bathes With His Mother

Big boy now, Cyrano still stays close to Mom

WASHINGTON -- Cyrano, the Smithsonian National Zoo's newest giant anteater, is still clinging to his mother's back.

Giant anteaters spend most of their first year riding their mothers' backs, and Cyrano was only born in March, but he's growing like a weed.

In footage released by the Zoo of Cyrano and his mother, Mirapi, taking a bath together, he looks like he's becoming quite a load to carry. Poor Mom!

As is typical among giant anteaters, the father, Dante, is separated from the family and will have no part in raising the child.
