Capitol Hill Man Killed Woman and Then Himself, Police Say

A D.C. man killed a woman and then killed himself, police said Tuesday, a day after the pair was found dead in a home in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, D.C.

Desiree Cooper, 36, was shot to death in her home on the 200 block of Tennessee Avenue NE by John Robinson, 37, who then shot himself, the Metropolitan Police Department said in an update Tuesday evening. Neighbors said the two were romantically involved.

Cooper and Robinson were found dead in the house they were renovating, about a block and a half northeast of Lincoln Park, about 3:45 p.m. Monday after police were asked to check on their welfare. Police initially called the death suspicious and then called their involvement a "death investigation" of an "isolated incident."

Cooper was an architect who worked for a consulting firm in Virginia, according to one of her colleagues, who called her an amazing person with a brilliant mind.

Robinson was a personal trainer at the Results gym on G Street SE.

The team investigating the murder-suicide towed Robinson's car Monday night. Neighbors said they last saw the pair in the car Friday night, talking.
