The 22-year-old accused of killing a cab driver in Tysons Corner says he did it in self-defense.
Evan Gargiulo turned himself into police on Tuesday. The body of 49-year-old Mazhar Nazir was found Sunday. Somebody called police after noticing the car hadn't moved over a period of several hours.
Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Ian Rodway says Gargiulo didn't tell his side of the story until Wednesday. He told police he wasn't able to pay the $130 fare. Gargiulo says when he told Nazir that, he became angry and threatened Gargiulo. That's when he shot the driver.
Nazir had a 12-year-old son and lived in Falls Church. Gargiulo graduated from Penn State in the spring and was working in the defense industry. He remains in jail after a judge denied his request to be released on bond.
