Cab Driver Stabbed During Carjacking

Driver sustained serious injuries

A cab driver sustained serious injuries after being stabbed and carjacked Friday morning.

It happened around 7 a.m. in the 500 block of Kenyon Street NW. Residents say the victim was in the road yelling for help.

"I saw him holler for help, but nobody stopped," a witness told News4's Megan McGrath. "The cars drove right past him... and he took off his jacket and I saw the blood."

The victim was transported to Washington Hospital Center.

Police are still searching for both the suspect and the stolen cab, a 2007 black Chevy Impala with D.C. tags 01939H.

For other cab drivers, the incident is a reminder of how dangerous their jobs can be. "No, I don't feel safe driving a cab," said one. "It could happen to anyone."

Another told McGrath, "It's just very sad. But then, you know, we have to do what we have to do to make a living."
