Bystanders Rescue Woman from Attacker in Northwest D.C.

Witnesses grab and hold suspect until police arrive

A 26-year-old woman is safe after being rescued from an attack on the edge of Georgetown.

It happened just after 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of M Street.  The woman says she was attacked from behind and dragged down a parking ramp.

Several bystanders saw the attack and ran to help her.  The attacker dropped her and ran off. 

The woman’s rescuers eventually caught the suspect and held him until police arrived. The woman identified the man to police as her attacker. He was arrested and charged with assault.

The woman was not seriously hurt.
