Busy Connecticut Avenue Getting a Makeover

City leaders are trying to slow the hustle and bustle of busy Connecticut Avenue.

The intersection near busy K Street is a mish-mash of signs and heavy traffic. Pedestrians cross every which way while drivers and bicyclists fight for space.

"This is an amazing intersection," said Leona Agouridis, of the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District. "Some of the highest traffic and pedestrian counts in the city. "

Now, work is beginning on a street-scaping project, for that part of Connecticut Avenue.

The unused center lane will be replaced with a barrier filled with plants and trees. That project is expected to take three weeks and cost about $370,000.

Once complete, work will continue north, until the center boxes and barriers reach Dupont Circle. It's estimated the entire project will take three years.
