Burglars Ram Local Liquor Store with Truck

Surveillance video shows bold burglary attempt

Police are looking for thieves who used a U-Haul truck to ram into a liquor store in Prince George’s County.

The attempted burglary happened round 2:40 a.m. Sunday at the Discount Liquor store at 9430 Annapolis Road in Lanham.

A surveillance video captured the crime. It shows a U-Haul truck ramming into the front of the store. When that didn’t work, the driver then crashed the truck into the side of the building, smashing through a brick and cinder block wall. Unfortunately for the crooks, that led to an area behind some shelves where no liquor was kept. The would-be thieves were not able to get to any of the alcohol. They drove off.

The impact of the crash into the side of the building knocked hundreds of bottles of alcohol off the shelves that were behind the register. That’s where the store kept its most expensive bottles.

This was the 4th time this has happened at the store in the past two and a half years. Each time, the store manager says the bandits have used a U-Haul truck to break-in. The previous three times the burglars were able to steal alcohol.

Because the sagging economy and the burglaries, the store owner tells News4 that he doesn’t know how much longer he can stay open. He estimates the damage to the building and the liquor lost at about $100,000.

No word from police about any suspects or arrests.
