Bundle up! A winter storm that spread snow across the D.C. area left behind cold so bitter that some area schools opened late Monday.
Temperatures will remain about 10 to 15 degrees below normal Monday, only reaching the mid to upper 20s by the afternoon.
But it felt even colder during the morning hours. Wind chills were in the teens and single digits across the region Monday morning.
The bitter cold and remaining wintry weather prompted schools in Fredericksburg and Stafford County in Virignia ro open 2-hours late Monday. Schools in Calvert and St. Mary's counties in Maryland, and Page and Spotsylvania counties in Virginia were closed.
A winter storm moved through the area Saturday, giving the D.C. and Baltimore metro areas a dusting to about 2 inches of snow while parts of southern Maryland saw about 3 to 6 inches, according to Storm Team4.
The National Weather Service said parts of southeast Virginia saw almost a foot of snow by Saturday afternoon. The Hampton Roads region and central Virginia were the hardest hit.
Highs will climb above freezing Tuesday and could reach the 50s Wednesday and the 60s Thursday.
