The youngest mayor in Maryland history -- a 19-year-old college student -- will be sworn into office Tuesday evening.

Brandon Paulin won last week's mayoral election in the town of Indian Head with 239 of the 383 votes cast. He is a student at the College of Southern Maryland.

"Thank you to all the voters that came out yesterday and all those who have supported me along the way," Paulin posted on Facebook the day after the election.

Paulin and the two other members of the town council will be sworn in during a ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Village Green Pavilion in Indian Head.

"I am delighted whenever young people get involved in their communities and government," said Commissioner President Peter F. Murphy in a release last week.

The town of Indian Head had a population of 3,844 in the 2010 U.S. Census, according to town officials.
