Brandon Meriweather Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

Meriweather refused to take a breathalyzer test

Redskins player Brandon Meriweather was arrested by Arlington Police on suspicion of DUI and refusal to take a breathalyzer test.

Meriweather was pulled over shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday, said police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. He had been driving westbound on I-66 near N. Ohio Street when he was pulled over.

Officers say they smelled a strong odor of alcohol and asked Meriweather to take a breathalyzer test, but he refused. He then failed a field sobriety test.

He was arrested and taken to a county detention center before he was released later Thursday.

The Redskins Safety had signed a two-year, $6 million deal last month with the Redskins. The 28-year-old was a first-round draft pick by New England in 2007 and was a two-time Pro Bowl player before he was cut in training camp last year. He then signed with Chicago but lost his starting job early in the season.
