Teen Facing Intent to Murder Charge After School Stabbing

Boy stabs girl at high school in Charles County

POMFRET, Md. -- A 16-year-old boy accused of stabbing a 17-year-old girl at McDonough High School in Pomfret Monday is facing an assault with intent to murder charge, according to authorities.
 
Gary O'Neil Palmer Jr., of Waldorf, also is charged as an adult with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, resisting arrest and carrying a deadly weapon on school property.
 
A third student was injured when he tried to assist the girl, who was stabbed in the back with a steak knife at about 11:45 a.m., authorities said. The attack took place in the hall near the cafeteria in between classes
 
The girl was airlifted to an area hospital. Palmer was apprehended and taken to an area hospital for treatment of an injury to his hand. The teen that assisted the girl was treated by the school nurse for a minor injury.
 
None of the injuries was life-threatening.
