15-Year-Old Boy Killed in Southeast DC Scooter Crash

A teenage boy has died and another boy was critically injured after a crash involving a motorized scooter Tuesday night in Southeast D.C., police say.

Police identified the victim who died as 15-year-old Dominique Antonio Lewis of Southeast D.C.

Lewis was a student at John Hayden Johnson Middle School, the school said in a tweet.

D.C. police responded to the scene, located about a half-mile northeast of the Congress Heights Metro station, about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.

They say Lewis and a passenger were on a scooter headed north in the 3200 block of 15th Place SE when a vehicle entered the intersection with Shippen Lane SE. The boys' scooter collided with the vehicle, and both victims were knocked off the scooter.

A U.S. Park Police helicopter airlifted them to a hospital. Lewis was pronounced dead, and the passenger of the scooter was admitted in critical condition, police said.

Police did not give the passenger's age.
