Body of Missing Maryland Girl Found

Volunteer search crew finds body of missing 11-year-old

The body of a Maryland girl who disappeared earlier this week has been found near the Delaware state line.

Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis said the body of Sarah Foxwell, 11, was discovered in the snow around 4 p.m. Christmas Day by a volunteer search crew. Her body was found not far from the home of Thomas Leggs Jr., a known sex offender and an ex-boyfriend of the girl's aunt, Amy Fothergill, who was Sarah's legal guardian.

"We have known that this man has some serious issues when it comes to self-sexual gratification and he has chosen many different victims in a variety, in a range of ages," Lewis told News4.

Foxwell was reported missing on Wednesday from her home on Maryland's Eastern Shore.  A relative discovered the child missing when she went to check on Sarah and her younger sister.

A charging document says Leggs was the last person seen with Sarah, according to the AP.

A "juvenile witness'' awoke during the night Tuesday and saw Sarah leave the bedroom with "Tommy,'' and said he was wearing
blue jeans, an orange jacket and white sneakers, the charging document says.

Fothergill told police the child's toothbrush was missing from the home, according to the statement of probable cause. Deputies said they found a green toothbrush and a lollipop in a truck Leggs admitted driving.

Leggs said he had been wearing jeans and white sneakers the previous night -- the same clothes he was wearing when police questioned him.

Leggs Jr., 30, with kidnapping and burglary on Thursday. Lewis said Leggs has been uncooperative and "of no assistance" to the investigation.

Thousands of volunteers showed up in Salisbury, Md., on Christmas morning to help in the search.
