Body of Frederick Man Found in Potomac River

Cause of death to be determined

A bicyclist discovered the body of a man in the Potomac River Sunday afternoon.

Police have identified the deceased as 54-year-old Peter V. O'Connell of Frederick. His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, and his death was determined to be a suicide.

The cyclist found O'Connell around 4:10 p.m. near a boat ramp in Point of Rocks, Md., near mile marker 48 of the C&O Canal.

O'Connell's car was found in a parking lot about a half-mile away. Police say investigators found a suicide note at his Frederick home.
