Body Found in Icy Waters of Rock Creek

Rescue officials believe the car had been there for a while

A man died Sunday after a car he was in was found overturned in frigid Rock Creek, according to the U.S. Park Police.

D.C. Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said a passerby reported seeing a tire sticking out from the creek, just south of P Street NW on Rock Creek Parkway, at about 10:20 a.m. Sunday. DC Fire and Rescue workers and U.S. Park Police worked together to find the car, which had a person inside.

Piringer said the car was found in about five or six feet of water and that rescue officials believe the car had been there for a while.  Rescue crews fought through waist-deep icy water, uncertain footing, and a swift-flowing stream to break into the submerged car, Park Police said.

The man who was in the car, Joshua A. Kuhlman, 22, of Arlington, was pulled from the vehicle and resuscitation efforts took place, but he eventually died.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the United States Park Police, Criminal Investigations Branch at (202) 610-8737.
