Man Whose Body Was Found in Burned-Out Car Died of Gunshot Wound, Police Say

A man found dead inside a burned-out car in Southeast D.C. Saturday night died of a gunshot wound, police said Sunday.

The case is now being investigated as a homicide.

The man's body was found at about 9:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Xenia Street SE. The initial police call was for a car on fire; the body was found after the fire was put out.

The victim had not been identified as of Sunday night.

Police said they will release more information as it becomes available.

This was the District's 107th homicide of 2015.

Early Sunday, a 55-year-old man was killed in D.C.'s Takoma neighborhood, becoming the 108th homicide victim this year.
