Body Found Near Retirement Community

Maintenance workers at a Montgomery County retirement community stumbled upon a gruesome sight Friday afternoon -- a decomposing body among the trees.

The discovery was made around 1 p.m. on the grounds of the Brooke Grove Retirement Community in Shady Spring. It was also just a few hundred feet from a new development of large homes.

The workers were out in the woods to get rid of a bees nest when they spotted the body on a gravel maintenance path adjacent to Brook Road.

Montgomery County Homicide detectives were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence. They call the death  "suspicious."

Investigators haven’t been able to determine who the victim is or how long they had been there.

"Part of the problem that we're dealing with right now is that due to the condition of the body we can't tell if it's a male or a female,” said Cpl. Dan Friz.  “It appears that the body is wrapped in some sort of cloth which we don’t want to disturb until the autopsy to preserve evidence."

One woman who lived nearby told News4 that she isn’t surprised by the find.

“Because I've been here 20 years and they've found many things in the woods here,” she told News4. “It's pretty rural, and I guess it's a good place to dump."
