Bloomingdale Neighborhood Gets Tips to Avoid Flooding

The northwest neighborhood has flooded four times already this summer.

Just before Saturday's severe storms hit, residents of DC’s northwest Bloomingdale neighborhood were getting help to try and prevent future flooding in their area.

DC Water hosted a workshop on Saturday to teach residents about backflow preventer devices.

The workshop lasted from 2-4 p.m. at the Bryant Street Pumping Station and adjourned just as the clouds began rolling into town.

The devices will hopefully ease the stress on the neighborhood’s sewers during periods of heavy rain.

Neighborhood officials are also looking at installing new storm drains.

Bloomingdale has had a rough summer, as rain has flooded the neighborhood several times, including last weekend. However, as of Saturday night, there were no reports of flooding, and ample sandbags were at the ready.
