Shriver died Tuesday after being hospitalized for several days in his native Maryland. He was 95 and suffered from Alzheimer’s disease since at least 2003.

A wake for Shriver was to be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown. It was open to the public. Speakers included Rep. Steny Hoyer and former presidential candidate George McGovern.

Relatives of Shriver said they have been touched by the support they've received after his death.

Maria Shriver thanked people for their condolences in a posting on Twitter on Friday. She and her brother, Tim, tweeted that the family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of well wishes and support.
They invited people to follow live updates on memorial activities on Twitter.
