A woman who was rescued from a house fire in North Bethesda is now a person of interest in the arson investigation that followed, fire officials said.
Police officers patrolling the area early Thursday morning heard a blast and were the first to arrive on the scene on the 11000 block of Cedarwood Drive, officials said.
Firefighters rescued one woman from the home, and she was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Police said the woman has been detained, but no charges have been filed.
Another person escaped the fire uninjured, police said.
An older woman, a college-aged woman and a college-aged man were recently residents in the home, neighbors told News4. They have lived on the block for decades, neighbors said.
Two people were displaced by the fire, which caused about $40,000 in damage, fire officials said.
The blaze is being investigated as an arson, but police say it's unclear why it was started. Investigators say they found incendiary materials in the home.
