A beloved cafeteria worker at a Virginia middle school was struck and killed by a car driven by a teen as she walked to work Friday.

Zorka Vesovic loved cooking and kids, and she found the perfect combination working in the cafeteria at Graham Park Middle School.

“When I talked to some of her colleagues, they said that she was a bright spot, that she was like a walking angel, that when she walked into a room, her spirit would light up the room,” Principal Maria Ramadane said.

She was struck just before dawn Friday in the crosswalk that leads to the school. She died soon after at a hospital.

A 16-year-old girl was driving the sedan that hit her.

Ramadane arrived shortly after the crash and diverted children to another crosswalk. She later learned the victim was on her staff.

“One student said that she knew everybody’s name,” she said. “So she knew their names, she knew her students here.”

Vesovic also was known for the cinnamon buns she made at the bakery station.

“She will greatly be missed here at Graham Park but she did have an impact on students, and not only just students, but staff as well because of the person that she was,” Ramadane said.

Prince William County police are looking for a second vehicle that struck the victim and fled the scene. It’s described as a dark-colored, newer model Toyota Camry that may have damage to the undercarriage.

There is no word yet from Prince William County police on whether the teenage driver will face charges.
