Bay Bridge Reopens Following Police Activity

The eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge are back open after police activity closed the span for just over an hour Thursday morning.

The bridge was closed about 6:30 a.m. Thursday for police activity, Maryland Transportation Authority Police spokesman 1st Sgt. Jonathan Green said. Green did not elaborate on why the bridge was closed.

Green said the situation was resolved around 7:45 a.m. The westbound span remained open.

There's currently a 5-mile backup in the area.

The closure comes as many in the region prepare to head east to beaches for Memorial Day weekend.
